Your Mission: Have Fun

Posted by Soderquist Leadership on Jan 13, 2015 4:32:00 PM

While I was in college and graduate school, I worked as the assistant manager at the Great American Cookie Company in the local mall. I worked with a great team brightening people's days with chocolate chips and sprinkles. Who wouldn’t love to do that all day?!? However, just like with all jobs, there is a monotony that can inevitably happen that makes it easy to overlook the fun of the work we are doing.

Luckily, I worked for a manager who taught me the important life lesson that work can be fun no matter how boring the routine. I can’t tell you the number of times Linda, my manager, and I were rolling out cookies or making cheesecake crusts (the two worst jobs, in my opinion) while laughing until our stomachs hurt. A double shift would fly by when working with Linda because the hours were filled with fun and humor.

It’s easy to take ourselves and our work too seriously. But we spend so many hours at work and with our work peers that it just makes sense to find ways to make it fun. So whether it’s spending time together laughing or doing something silly to change up the day, make it your mission to find a way to have fun at work!
